dinner during the Fast

a couple of nights during the Fast this year, friends of ours offered to take care of aliyah so that victor and i could go to the dining room together to have dinner. during a period where i don't have much contact with the bwc community, having dinner in the dining room is really a treat... seeing everyone, having the special foods that are prepared only for that occasion, and just feelng the nice atmosphere that is unique to the Fasting period.... really something i love about the bwc.

SO surprised

ok, victor has thrown a few surprises my way over the years. there was the brunch at the bahji visitor center in '04 that he wasn't even there for. there was also the 13 people standing on the hillel stairs across the street each holding a letter of the phrase "happy birthday" for me to see from the 19th floor of our building. but for some reason, this year's surprised totally floored me. i think it was a combination attempted plans being cancelled because of conflicting activities and the fact that when i arrived at this cafe where everyone was waiting, i somehow felt that i had brought myself and a couple of friends there (rather than the usual being taken somewhere and there you find the surprise). in any case, the birthday that was seemingly going to be non eventful turned out to be one of the best surprises and most memorable ever. thank you bicbic!

tonight we said good-bye to a very good friend of ours, yasmine (center), who is going back to france after serving in haifa for 18 months. she started out as my hip-hop dance teacher and became one of my closest friends. will miss her so much....
